This week, I had the pleasure of sitting down and speaking with the owner and operator of Hordis Family Agency, Scott Hordis. He currently has an Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI) designation and has been at 1126 on Baltimore Pike for over three years now. He is one of the hardest working insurance agents in the tri-state area, and his work shows. He opened his office in Springfield in 2019, and transformed the location into one of the top local insurance offices in the nation out of the over 250 locations!
When choosing a location for his office, Scott said he couldn’t think of a better location than Springfield. Being so close to both a major US city and the suburbs is almost too good to be true.

“You go left, and it hits Philadelphia and you go right, and you stay in the suburbs. It gets people from all walks of life of people and that’s why I always want to have a … very diverse staff as well because we always cater to other peoples or individual needs, kind of best of both worlds.”
Scott is one of the most genuine insurance agents I’ve been able to speak with. He constantly talks about helping as many people as possible, in as many ways as possible. Such a philanthropic outlook on the industry as a whole just shows his intentions of truly wanting to save his clients money and improve their coverages. Unlike many “golf-agents,” or agents who are never in the office, Scott knows what he’s talking about and knows how to run his office.
“You do the right thing, for the right reasons, all the time, for every customer. Those are the things we want to make sure we do, whether it’s working on someone’s homeowner insurance and something were to happen there we want to make sure we reach out to the customer, double check on them and make sure we give them the appropriate plan for the appropriate price for the coverage that they need.”
He even told me about an email he received that morning. One of his clients, a client with 14 policies with the office, reached out to him. Hordis Family Agency couldn’t give him a low enough price, but Scott still wanted to help him find a good policy. The client sent Scott everything over for his feedback on it and he was happy to give some comments on the quotes that the client got. Knowing he couldn’t help the client, Scott still took an hour out of his day to give the client notes just to make sure he’s making the right, educated decision and he understands everything, reinforcing his motto saying, “Hey, I would want someone to do that for me.”
“What we did yesterday doesn’t always mean we can do the same thing today”
To most people, this would be enough. I mean, opening your own agency, receiving a prestigious designation, becoming one of the top local offices in the nation, those are no small feats. Not to Scott. He is constantly wanting to be more, and to be better. I asked Scott how he sees success and he said:
“I always think we can be better, I want to keep pushing, I want to keep driving because what we did yesterday doesn’t always mean we can do the same thing today or the same thing the next day. Last month we helped 350 clients, I want to help 360 clients. If last year, we helped 3,000 clients, this year I want to help 3,500 clients.”
Scott has a tremendous work ethic and when he was first starting the office, he would work tirelessly to ensure that everything was taken care of, and there was a lot to be taken care of.

Before Construction Started
“I built this office, literally I built out this office. We were the only tenant in this space. We were a brand-new building, when you walked in here this entire space was just a concrete floor. That was it. I built this. So, we had got all the permits, we did everything because we’re the first tenant inside of here. We’ve been the only tenant inside of 1126, since this 1126 has been created.”

After Construction Ended
Scott has always outworked his competition and even colleagues throughout his entire life. He got his AAI in just one year! For reference, it typically takes someone 3-4 years to receive such a designation. Based on this tremendous work ethic, it’s no surprise that when building the office Scott said,
“On Christmas Day [my wife and I] spent all day until like 1 am putting these desks together. I only had like two desks or three desks and [we] had a big team when we first started. We didn’t have a spot to sit our first week. But after we were done with that, I think that’s where the relief came in.”
Nobody realizes the Hordis family Agency office is actually locally owned and operated. That the person you speak with over the phone physically built out the office. It can be easy to get distracted by the multi-billion-dollar sign hanging outside, but 1126 on Baltimore Pike is really a mom and pop shop.
“We are a small, independently owned business, and people coming into our office they think it’s a big corporate company but it’s not. We’re an independently owned business, everything in here means the world to the people who you do business with. All the proceeds that people pay directly supports the local economy of Delaware County which is where most of the people in here live.”
Most of the clients looking to get insured through the office think that they only offer auto insurance, but Hordis Family Agency has much more to offer. They can provide you with homeowners, condo, renters, motorcycle, boat, and more! Click or call to learn about all the policies they have to offer.
