Insurance is something that nobody likes to talk about, aside from the fact of how much it costs them. Today, I’m going to be going over some ways to help save you money on your insurance. Looking at some of the top insurance companies in the country, there are some similar ways that they help save money. Most people know about bundling, or 15 minutes could save you 15% or more from certain insurance companies ads. In fact, it’s practically part of our subconscious at this point. Although these companies love advertising their catchy slogans, they don’t actually tell you how to save.
1. Car Insurance Discounts & Premium Reductions
Our agency allows for exclusive discounts and premium reductions on car insurance, motorcycle insurance, and more. Our discounts are based on five different criteria: Vehicle Equipment, Driving History & Habits, Driver’s Education, Driver Affiliations, and Customer Loyalty.
Vehicle Equipment gets you a discount on your insurance for having: an Air Bag, Anti-Lock Brakes, Anti-Theft System, Daytime Running Lights, and/or just for having a New Vehicle. Those discounts, ranging from 23% (Air Bag) to 3% (Daytime Lights) could end up saving you hundreds of dollars on your insurance.
Driving History and Habits is just based on if you have gone the last five years without a car accident (22%), and if you use your seat belt (varies).
Driver’s Education relies on you taking a Defensive Driving and Drivers Educational Course to qualify for this discount.
Driver Affiliation applies to military, members, or government employees. We love supporting all of our clients any way we can. That’s why we offer: Emergency Deployment (25%), Federal Employee (12%), Membership & Employee (varies), and Military (15%).
Our customer loyalty program rewards our clients who purchase multi-vehicle (25%) or multi-line (varies) policies.
2. Usage-Rate or Pay-per-Mile
Pay-per-mile car insurance is a great way to save money, depending on how much you drive. Pay-per-mile is just as it sounds – you pay a monthly base rate plus a monthly mileage rate which changes. This coverage typically comes with everything that a normal policy, such as liability car insurance and medical expenses. Pay-per-mile is a great system if you don’t drive that much. I would suggest this policy to people such as: college students, people who commute via public transportation, if you work from home, or have a second car you don’t drive that much.
3. Multi-Policy Discount

I’m sure everyone has heard of bundling their insurance by now, all those Progressive ads made sure of it. But what does it mean and what are my options? The multi-policy discount is when you typically purchase homeowners and auto insurance, or renters and auto insurance together. On average this discount would be 5-25% off each. The convenience of all your policies being under one account is another benefit that should be mentioned. All your billing information and coverage details can be accessed from the same account.
4. Membership
We partner with a large variety of different organizations. If you, or whoever is filling out the policy then they may be eligible for a special auto insurance membership discount (or premium reduction) if you are a member of one of our partner organizations. Our partner organizations include: The Alumni Associations, Fraternities and Sororities, Professional Organizations and many others to uphold our values as an agency and to always get you your best price.
5. Military Discounts
Our office supports our troops and honor their service to our country. With that, we wanted to allow a special discount where if you are on active duty, retired from the Military, or a member of the National Guard or Reserves you can save up to 15% on your total premium. For our active members we offer an Emergency Deployment Discount too. This is when you deploy into imminent danger pay areas, you have received orders to one of the DOD designated areas, or your vehicle is stored under one of our approved storage protection plans.
6. Students Discounts
We understand that being a student is hard. Even harder? Finding an affordable insurance plan. Offering college or high school students cheap and competitive rates on their auto insurance allows them to focus on more meaningful things. By switching, students could save $100, $150, or even $200 on an auto insurance policy. Our office any many other insurance companies offer students discounts, including a good student discount. The good student discount is typically when you maintain a “B” average or better. If you’re involved in Greek life there’s benefits for that too: Fraternity, sorority and honor society membership discounts are available for members in certain organizations.
7. Safe Driving / Defensive Driving
A lot of insurance companies offer discounted rates on your insurance for taking driving safety courses, installing their drive safety app, or simply not being involved in an accident for the last five years. Defensive driving courses teach safe driving techniques for car accident prevention. Adopting defensive driver techniques, like maintaining a safe distance between cars or limiting the force of impact, could help make the roads a safer place and lower the cost of your policy.
